The majority of the documents held by the Archives relate to the Polish Government in France (Angers), in Great Britain (London) and the Polish Armed Forces during the Second World War. These include: the papers of the Presidential Office, Cabinet, individual ministries, government insitutions, embassies and legations.



The military papers cover the Polish 1939 campaign, the Polish Army in France (1939-1940), U.K. (l940-1947), Middle East (1940-1946), USSR (l941-1942), Italy (1944- 1946), N.W. Europe (1944-1947) as well as the Polish Navy and Polish Air Force. There are also over 400 personal collections. The Polish Underground Study Trust houses the papers of the Underground Movement (1939- 1945), the Home Army and the Government Delegature.
The Archives of the Polish Institute, situated in the main Princes Gate building, include material on the following topics:
1. Events preceding the outbreak of the Second World War.
2. The September Campaign of 1939 in Poland.
3. The political and military activities of the Polish Government in exile.
